Pat Briggs, MU Extension Center Christian County

Pat Briggs, MU Extension Council, Christian County location. The purpose of the Extension Center is to inform and involve citizens with Missouri University and county community. The MU Extension Center has a significant economic impact of $1.2 billion. Funds are distributed through businesses, grazing schools, Master Gardeners, 4H program and other community programs.

The MU Extension Center Christian County is very involved in informing citizens regarding health and well-being, mental health, helping with chronic illnesses, parenting, fall prevention and more. Older Adult programs include Strong Stay Healthy, diabetes education, and exercise are a few which help to save citizens money.

Healthy Eating on a Budget, Jams and Jellies classes, Sewing for Kids, Seed Saving and extended growing seasons education are some more topics provided by MU Extension Christian County . Miranda Beadles, P.E. Highway Administrator

Miranda Beadles, Administrator of Christian County Road Department shared with us of her efforts with the Christian County Road Department. As a civil engineer, Rolla is her alma mater, and eleven-year director of CC Road District she oversees the daily upkeep and planning of CC roadways. Christian County relies heavily upon grants, which she applies for. Grants are very important to providing us with the funds needed to keep our roadways safe and operational.

She encouraged us to shop local (#ShopLocal) as the county funding for our road district is funded through sales tax. The West End of Christian County used to have 50 miles of dirt roads and now it's down to 8 miles of dirt road. Road District provides their own fleet maintenance. They are restoring 4 historic bridges and Miranda Beadles updated us on the progress. Christian County is the only county in Missouri with restoration of four bridges. Green Bridge should be opened by December.

Answering questions regarding Holder Road closure, Miranda explained the process laid out in statues regarding citizens requests for road closures. Ultimately, the County Commissioner decided not to close Holder Road. She encouraged all of us to visit https://christiancounty.cleargov.com/ for viewing how YOUR tax dollars are utilized in CC.

Steve Perry, Updated us on the Planning and Development in Christian County

Steve Perry, recently appointed to the Building Codes and Inspection Board, spoke with us about Christian County planning and zoning. He attends the COUNTY planning and zoning meetings. Christian County is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. Each of our CITIES’ planning and zoning boards meet monthly as well. At this time, there is no master strategic plan or coordination of planning between the COUNTY planning and zoning and the various CITY planning and zoning.

There needs to be more strategic planning with all working together. Many of us moved to Christian County and enjoy living here because we enjoy the rural atmosphere. There are those who want growth. He spoke at length about the battery facility that was not allowed because citizens spoke up and the county commissioners voted it down.
