JUST a FEW POINTS ABOUT Amendment 5
TAXES Amendment Five
Act4MO shares a deep dive on the proposed Amendment 5 ballot measure. https://new-site.act4mo.org/posts/hjr173-ham.html and here; https://new-site.act4mo.org/posts/HJR173-changes-bad.html
This measure will be on the AUGUST 4th ballot.
A couple of points to consider; If you have worked in Missouri for many years, YOU have paid Missouri state income taxes and now that you are retired or nearing retirement, the legislators are asking you to CONTINUE to pay taxes on what you now consume.
Additionally, there is NO mention of reducing taxes that fund the gluttonous Missouri state budget, only shifting the source of money. In 2021 the state budget was $29 billion (for 6 million citizens) and 2025 state budget was $41 billion. Yes, we do mean BILLION with a B for six million citizens.
What citizens are being asked to give up
The public is not just being asked to approve a lower income tax. It is being asked to give lawmakers constitutional permission to expand taxes to services and other currently protected transactions later, while also letting those future bills avoid key constitutional guardrails for up to five years. “may be expanded by legislation to impose taxes on transactions involving any goods and services.” There is NO SPECIFICATION of the AMOUNT of the proposed sales taxes OR which goods and services will be taxed. Here is the official measure; the word salad that it is; Swapping income taxes for sales taxes |
